What Occurrence Depth Means

This game compares recorded occurrence depths, measured in meters below the surface.

  • Most rows come from free GBIF occurrence records that include both a depth value and a still image.
  • An occurrence depth is a record location, not a typical swimming or feeding depth for the species.
  • A few curated dive-record rows remain as supplemental rows when they are not already covered by the GBIF sample.

Deep ocean comparisons are much more playable when we use open occurrence records instead of rare tag records only.
