What This Lightning Figure Means
This game compares how often lightning occurs around a city, using the lightning-density area published for the place that city sits inside.
- The source measures average lightning events per square kilometer per year across 2016 through 2025.
- The published map is area-based, not city-point based, so each city inherits the county, subregion, or country polygon it falls into.
- A higher number means lightning is more frequent there. It does not automatically mean the city is more dangerous, wetter, or less livable.
Lightning frequency is one part of the weather story. Exposure, building quality, elevation, and where storms actually hit still matter.
