What River Discharge Means
River discharge is the average volume of water moving past a point each second.
- This game uses average discharge figures in cubic meters per second, usually written as m3/s.
- A bigger number means more water flow. It does not automatically mean the river is longer, wider, or more famous.
- Some entries are major tributaries rather than the main stem of a basin, which is why familiar names can sit below less famous ones.
- These are reference averages compiled from multiple hydrology sources, not one synchronized live gauge reading.
Rivers do not just differ by length. Some move whole inland seas every second.
