What Unbanked Means

This game compares the share of adults who do not have a bank, similar financial institution, or mobile money account.

  • The source starts with account ownership and this game flips it into the unbanked share: adults without an account.
  • The figure is about access, not savings balances. Someone can be unbanked while still using cash, debt, family networks, or informal savings groups every day.
  • Global Findex is a survey dataset, so the number reflects how adults report their own financial access in the latest survey round.
  • In each round, pick the country with the higher unbanked share.

No account is not the same thing as no money. It often says more about infrastructure, documentation, trust, and exclusion than about individual discipline.
