• This is FAO’s prevalence of undernourishment indicator, which estimates chronic insufficient calorie intake across the population.
• This build uses the latest broad 3-year average, 2022-2024, because that keeps country coverage strong and avoids overreading a single-year wobble.
• Undernourishment is not the same thing as food prices alone or food insecurity survey responses alone. It is closer to sustained insufficient intake.
• In each round, pick the country with the higher undernourishment share, or SAME when the percentages match.

A country can produce or import a lot of food and still leave a large share of its population chronically underfed.
