What Undernourishment Means
This game compares the share of people whose habitual food intake is not enough to meet minimum dietary energy needs.
- This is FAO’s prevalence of undernourishment indicator, which estimates chronic insufficient calorie intake across the population.
- This build uses the latest broad 3-year average, 2022-2024, because that keeps country coverage strong and avoids overreading a single-year wobble.
- Undernourishment is not the same thing as food prices alone or food insecurity survey responses alone. It is closer to sustained insufficient intake.
- In each round, pick the country with the higher undernourishment share, or SAME when the percentages match.
A country can produce or import a lot of food and still leave a large share of its population chronically underfed.
